Editorial illustration “Love Is Love” is a pen-and-ink drawing created for my DerksWorld article about underserved audiences in entertainment.
The illustration shows an interracial couple embracing. The image represents how audiences connect with stories when they see their own lives and relationships reflected on screen. Representation and authenticity have become increasingly important in modern storytelling.
I created this artwork in pen and ink to give it a clean editorial style similar to illustrations used in magazines and cultural commentary. The simple composition focuses on the emotional connection between the two characters while keeping the visual language direct and expressive.
The illustration appears as the hero image for the DerksWorld article “Underserved Audiences in Entertainment: 10 Niches Hollywood Is Finally Discovering.”
In that article I explore how filmmakers, independent creators, and animation studios are reaching audiences that Hollywood historically overlooked. These audiences include regional communities, animation fans, and viewers seeking values-driven storytelling.
The drawing reflects a simple idea: when entertainment reflects real people and real relationships, audiences respond.
